The annual Between the Waters Bike Tour is brought to you by the nonprofit Citizens for a Better Eastern Shore. Since 1988 CBES has been helping to protect this rare, coastal gem. It is our only fundraising event.

START OPENS AT 7 a.m.

100-mile - 7:30 - 8 am

60-mile - 8 - 9 am

40-mile - 9 - 10 am

25-mile - 10 - 10:30 am 

Due to sunlight safety issues, plan to start your ride no earlier than 7:15 am on 10/24.


REST & LUNCH STOP TIMES 

Times & Locations Coming Soon


Landowners graciously open properties for rest stops/lunch. [Please no cars at lunch]


Rest stops stocked with beverages, snacks, toilets and open on a published schedule.


Tour is on paved public roads, except driveways leading to rest stops/lunch and some parking areas. 


Directional arrows painted on right edge of pavement at all public road intersections.  


Support and Gear (SAG):

Professional service available at start and lunch stop. Several marked vehicles ride routes & available all day to assist riders. 


Police/Rescue Squads aware of tour routes.

  • If you have an emergency, call 911 ASAP.
  • If you need assistance on tour, contact personnel at any stop and SAG support.

BICYCLE SAFETY PRACTICES:

Please be aware of the basic rules of biking


  • Wear approved helmet and visible clothing
  • Never wear headphones
  • Abide by all vehicular rules of the road including stop signs and traffic signals
  • Ride in the same direction as motor vehicles and as near to the right side as is safe
  • Ride single file unless there is adequate space on the shoulder to ride double—never 3 abreast
  • Announce yourself when overtaking or passing other cyclists
  • Only pass other cyclists on the left
  • Ride consistently and predictably
  • Check traffic conditions before changing lanes or making turns
  • Use standard hand signals in all appropriate situations
  • Consider a rearview mirror to help in traffic
  • Consider carrying a cell phone for emergencies
  • Beware of potholes, glass, scrap metal, gravel, leaves, man-hole covers, drainage grates, wet metal and other hazards
  • Beware of motor vehicle blind spots and opening doors on parked vehicles
  • Beware of chasing dogs
  • Drink before you are thirsty; eat before you are hungry
  • Walk your bike if the road or traffic conditions are beyond your cycling ability.
