| Save the Hagia Sophia from Islamic Extremists |
| Since 1934 the Hagia Sophia has been a landmark site of openness and tolerance in Turkey, drawing millions to see the beautiful cathedral that was built as a Christian church. The recent decision of the Turkish Islamist government to convert the cathedral into a mosque is a direct attack on Christians and Christian heritage in the Middle East. We call upon the government of Turkey to reverse its decision and maintain the Hagia Sophia as a world heritage site open to all. We call upon world governments to implore Turkey that they must reverse this action. |
