eLearning

An eLearning Day is very similar to a normal school day, and allows critical instructional time to continue from home when regularly scheduled school days are not possible. Anderson Five is a 1:1 school district, meaning ALL students in grades Kindergarten(K5)-12 have a Chromebook device and are to complete eLessons during eLearning. Preschool students in our K3 and K4 programs also participate in eLearning via eLearning packets: a paper packet containing activities and lessons to be completed at home during eLearning. eLearning packets were sent home at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year. If the packet has been misplaced or if a replacement packet is needed for any reason, eLearning packets may be retrieved from your child's school. QR codes are also available on our eLearning website for parents to scan, download, and access the materials. Please also be encouraged to view the Preschool Family Calendars.

Students grades K5-12 will find their assignments loaded electronically into Google Classroom. Google Classroom is our learning management system that all teachers use within their classroom to provide lessons, resources, and support from the teacher. Each student will complete the material for each of their classes on their schedule and submit their work for the assignment through Google Classroom.

Teachers will be available throughout the day via virtual office hours to answer student and their parent/guardian questions. Common Digital Office Hours are:

  • Elementary: 9:00am-10:30am and 1:30pm-3:00pm
  • Secondary: 9:00am-12:00pm

Teachers can communicate with students/parents via Google Classroom, Email, Remind, SeeSaw, or Class DoJo to answer questions or provide help during office hours. Remind is the only way to communicate without Internet access.

We strongly encourage you to visit our district-wide eLearning site for resources, tips, tools, videos, visuals, solutions, how-tos. The site contains pertinent information for students, parents, and teachers of ALL Elementary-High grade levels and scenarios.

Internet Connectivity, Chromebook Depot

The Information Technology (IT) Services Department will be working to provide technical support to all staff, students, and parents, of Anderson School District Five during eLearning Days.

If you still need to pick up a Chromebook device, it will be available at the District Office beginning on Tuesday, March 17th at 8am at the rear of the District Office building.

eLearning Technical Support is available on eLearning Days between the hours of 8am-4pm over the phone at 864-222-4911. Additionally during this time of school closures, IT will have a "District Office Depot" setup on-site to assist with hardware issues and/or any other repairs to Chromebooks that otherwise cannot be resolved over the phone. You will be directed to visit the depot only after speaking to someone via our phone support line at 864-222-4911. The District Office Depot operates

8:00am-4:00pm Monday through Friday.

Please note that Chromebooks/eLessons/Google Classroom are able to function without internet connectivity. Additionally, all students can access, complete, and submit work via cellphone on the Google Classroom app which is available for both iOS and Android. The Google Classroom app is free and allows users to do anything on a mobile phone that can be done on a computer.

However, in the event that you find that internet is needed, please note that the parking lots of all Anderson Five school campuses serve as HotSpots for internet connectivity to our students' Chromebooks. Student devices will automatically connect to Wifi in these areas. If you opt to utilize this feature, we recommend securing yourself in your vehicle in the facility parking lot to upload your eLessons to the point where they can be retrieved without internet connectivity. We have been informed that some service providers are offering their services during this time of school closures in which you/your household may qualify to partake in.

More information and answers to common questions from IT eLearning Support can be found here.

Special Education Services

What about students receiving special education services?

A large majority of our students with disabilities currently use online learning at some level. As a result many of these students follow plans similar to their peers. Special education teachers work with regular education teachers to make sure the content is accessible and accommodated for each individual student when needed. Special education teachers may also assign individualized activities for the student to continue working on their Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and objectives. However, we do have some students that have greater needs and may not be able to access online learning. For these students, special education teachers create alternative activities. These activities are designed to ensure students continue to work on their IEP goals and access the curriculum. Speech Therapists, Vision Teacher(s), Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher(s) Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapists are posting online assignments and activities designed to assist students progress toward their IEP goals. Teachers and therapists hold office hours on eLearning days.

What about educational services that cannot be provided at home for students with disabilities?

To ensure the student has a free and appropriate public education (FAPE), several factors will be considered: amount of time missed from school, which IEP related skills/services could not be worked on at home, regression level of student skills, and how much time will be needed for the student to regain skills. If compensatory services are determined to be needed for the student by the IEP team, arrangements will made by the school to determine how services can be provided.

Please redirect any additional specific questions to your child's school, or our SPED team at the district office.
