More books and magazines are available to Twin Cities area residents using the Libby app. Learn how to use this important online tool!

The Libby app from OverDrive is a complete app for borrowing digital books and magazines from your local library. Use it to borrow and read eBooks, eMagazines and borrow and listen to audio books at home or even in your car. Over 90% of the public libraries in North America use the OverDrive platform to host their digital book collections that include classic books and current bestsellers.

This spring, Libby’s benefits for Twin Cities residents became even greater as all seven metro area county libraries have announced that are consolidating their digital collections to the OverDrive platform to be accessible with Libby. This means more books and more popular magazines will be available to SHIFT members who reside in the Twin Cities area using Libby.

This workshop will explore the Libby app and using it to borrow, read or listen to books and magazines from your local library.  If you are not sure if your local library uses OverDrive with Libby, search for your library on the OverDrive website.

Don Frederiksen is the founder and principal of the SeniorTechClub.com, the online club that helps older adults stay connected and engaged by learning, sharing and exploring technology. Don could be a Shift poster child with his encore experience.

After 35 years working as an IT leader and manager, trainer, data analyst and developer, his position was terminated in 2017 due to a corporate acquisition. He learned about SHIFT during his outplacement exploration. The SeniorTechClub.com continues to be a work in progress with a mission to help older adults be active lifelong learners.

Don started his professional career as a school band director, discovered personal computers in the early 80’s, and never looked back. He traveled the country teaching IT professionals, started two companies and led corporate IT teams. He has a BS from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from the University of St Thomas. He lives in St Anthony, MN.

Please note: registering through the event page for the event is just STEP ONE of a TWO-STEP Registration Process.

Step Two: The Zoom link contained on the confirmation or in the confirmation email will take you to a second page, which is the registration process for our Zoom Virtual Conference Platform which will ask you to re-enter your name and email to confirm. That second registration will generate a meeting invitation email which contains your UNIQUE MEETING LINK AND PASSCODE that will allow you to log-in to the meeting/call/workshop at the appointed time.

Yes, we realize that a double registration process can be a bit frustrating, however this addition step is to protect our virtual meeting from uninvited guests gaining access to the online classroom and causing any type of nuisance or disruption.

Thank you for your patience with this additional SHIFT safety process and protocol.

SHIFT will not issue credits or refunds in the following circumstances:

When you give to SHIFT, your donated funds are used to run the year-round programs that support our mission of providing support, education and workshops to people in midlife navigating work or life transition. The bulk of the money we receive goes directly to these initiatives. A portion is also used to serve day-to-day needs and operational expenses so we can continue to offer these programs to our members. Thank you for your generous support.
