BUILDING DURABILITY SEMINAR

PRESENTED BY NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL OF CANADA

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 25TH

8:00 AM - 12:30 PM

National Research Council of Canada

1200 Montreal Road, Building M-20 Room 114

Ottawa, ON K1A 0R6

Join leading experts in building science, materials engineering, and regulatory frameworks for an engaging seminar on the critical role of durability and service life prediction in the construction industry.

Why Attend:

Designing and building with durability in mind is not simply good practice — it can be considered a competitive advantage. Choosing materials and systems with proven longevity can help reduce lifecycle costs, avoid performance failures, enhance climate change adaptation, and meet evolving code requirements. This seminar will provide you with both the insight and tools to align design decisions with long-term value. You’ll also have the opportunity to engage with industry experts and evaluation professionals to have any of your questions answered.

This program combines focused talks and real-world case studies to explore:

·      Innovative methods for assessing material longevity

·      How durability and climate change adaptation is shaping National Building Code of Canada (NBC)

·    The role of services like the NRC’s Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC) in innovative product and system assessments and evaluations

Participants will gain both theoretical knowledge and practical insights, making this event ideal for professionals in design, construction, regulation, and product certification. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance (IIBEC Continuing Education Hours).

Bonus Experience:

Following the seminar, take part in an exclusive guided tour of the NRC’s Construction Research Centre facilities, where cutting-edge durability testing and evaluation processes will be showcased.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the significance of durability and service life prediction in the context of building materials, systems, climate change adaptation, and codes
  • Evaluate real-world case studies to understand practical methods for assessing durability and predicting material performance over time
  • Recognize the role of assessment services, such as the CCMC, in supporting durability in standards and innovative product and system assessments and evaluation.
