"Comprehensive Retinal Vascular Occlusive Disease: More than Meets the Eye"

This course will review the clinical presentation and systemic disease associations of retinal vascular occlusive diseases including central and branch retinal artery occlusions as well as venous occlusion and ocular ischemic syndrome. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of systemic investigation to look for potentially serious, life-threatening etiologies.

Utilizing a grand rounds presentation format, cases of trauma and ocular disease presenting to the emergency department, most of which required emergent treatment to prevent blindness and/or serious systemic consequences, will be discussed.

An optometry practice as a business model can be broken down into two components serving patients and subsequent income generation. Tips on increasing key metrics and overlooked areas that lead to reduced cash flow will be analyzed, in order to help the practice owner develop a methodology of creating a lean practice.


Carolyn Majcher, OD, FAAO

Dr. Carolyn Majcher received her Doctorate of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University and completed an ocular disease residency at the Eye Institute of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Following completion of her residency, Dr. Majcher served as Chief of the Retinal Disease Clinic and an Assistant Professor at the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry for 8 years. In 2019 she joined the Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry as an Associate Professor and the Director of Residency Programs. For more on Dr. Majcher click the button.

Aaron Neufeld, OD

In both 2021 and 2022, Dr. Neufeld was named to Newsweek's Top 150 Optometrists in the US. In addition to being a clinician, he has served on expert panels and has written articles on specialty contact lenses and myopia control for optometric publications. He has also founded two other companies: one that provides professional/practice resources to optometrists and their practices; and another that provides highly specialized contact lens services to patients with unique eye conditions.
