Join Wild Ones members with hike leader, Gordon Revey, as we explore a mix of creek side and wooded habitat of Old Stone Fort Archaeological State Park.
The main hiking trail follows the wall of Old Stone Fort which was used by the Native Americans as a ceremonial gathering place. The trail threads through dramatic scenery where you can see the original entrance of the fort which was designed to face the exact spot on the horizon where the sun rises during the summer solstice. Step Falls, Blue Hole Falls, and Big Falls can be viewed from the trail. We will see bluebells (Mertensia virginica), bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis), troutlily (Erythronium americanum), numerous Violet species (Viola sp.), toothwort (Cadamine sp.) as well as spicebush (Lindera benzoin), plus several other early wildlowers.
Easy to moderate difficulty along 3 miles of trail. Start time is listed for 10 Eastern. Please note location is on Central time.
