Hike - Chickamauga Battlefield Cedar Glade Trails

Join members and non members alike for a local glades hike, with park botanist, Taylor Perkins, to view the native wildflowers of Fort Oglethorpe, GA.

Join Wild Ones TN Valley chapter and hike leader, Taylor Perkins, as we explore a mix of glade, creek side and lightly wooded habitat of Chickamauga Battlefield.


Several trailheads wind throughout the park. You'll learn about the limestone prairie and glade habitat and restoration efforts at the park. We will see prime endemic examples of the glade, including Nashville breadroot (Pediomelum subacaule), hoary puccoon (Lithospermum canescens), glade violet (Viola egglestonii), fragrant sumac (Rhus aromatica) and Gattinger's prairie clover (Dalea gattingeri). plus several other trees, shrubs and wildlowers native to the region. 


Easy walking along various trails.


Hike Leader: Taylor Perkins, botanist with our region's National Parks system, with extensive experience in our region and beyond. In addition to a deep knowledge of and being published on Chinkapin species, he is also an active volunteer and participant in many botanical outings with interests in genetics of native plants, restorations and exploring remnant habitat.


Rating:  Easy. Loops, and out n backs, exploration and spur trails


Distance: Approximately 3 miles broken up with rests between several sites in and bordering the park.


Duration: Approximately 4 hours for exploration, photography and discussion (not including travel time).


Bring water, insect repellent, sunscreen, appropriate trail footwear, binoculars for birds, butterflies and out of reach flora. Bring snacks or a lunch for mid hike break. No pets at any of our Wild Ones hikes please.
