Invitation to the San Antonio G.O.A.L.S. Economic Mobility Study Results Event

We are thrilled to extend a warm invitation to you for a momentous occasion that marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to enhance economic mobility and health equity in our community. Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc., designed and commissioned a two-year study that examined two economic mobility strategies: Mobility Mentoring and Cash Assistance. Now that the study is complete we are ready to share the results of what we learned. Through this study, we sought to find and support ways to address the root causes of poverty and improve financial outcomes for families. We invite you to join us and our partners Empower House and Family Service, and our research partner the University of Texas at San Antonio, to present the results of the San Antonio G.O.A.L.S. (Generating Opportunities for Achieving Lasting Success) initiative. This groundbreaking study is the first of its kind in the nation, exploring the synergistic effects of cash assistance (cash transfers) and Economic Mobility Pathway’s (EMPath) Mobility Mentoring® on economic mobility. Please join us as we review what we learned and discuss how best we can move forward to implement some of these key learnings together.

Study Background

The San Antonio G.O.A.L.S. initiative represents a collaborative effort to address the root causes of poverty and improve financial outcomes for families in our community. This two-year study, commissioned by Methodist Healthcare Ministries, involved two local nonprofit organizations, Family Service and Empower House, and was conducted as a randomized control trial. The study uniquely evaluated the combined impact of cash assistance and Mobility Mentoring®, a coaching approach developed by EMPath in Boston, MA, which empowers individuals to set and achieve goals across key life areas such as health, family, career, finances, and education. We will cover key findings and future implications.
