Meet Our Featured Speakers:

Dr. Mitchell is a breast surgeon, lactation consultant, and perinatal mental health provider. She will be presenting on "The New Mastitis Protocol", "Breast Surgery and Breastfeeding" and "Perinatal Mental Health Disorders and Lactation."


With over 50 academic manuscripts and multiple book chapters on lactation, as well as the intersection of breast cancer and breastfeeding, Dr. Mitchell is a globally recognized expert. She has lectured across Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia and is a frequent speaker with the American Society of Breast Surgeons. Dr. Mitchell is also the creator of the Physician Guide to Breastfeeding, an evidence-based resource for breastfeeding families and the professionals who support them. Brenda Vieyra is a public health expert and lactation consultant with a focus on equity in breastfeeding support. She will be presenting on "Enhancing Lactation Support for Latino/x Dyads: Effective Strategies for Increased Duration and Exclusivity" and "Nurturing Two: Breastfeeding Through Pregnancy and Beyond."


Brenda is a Southern California native with over 10 years of experience developing public health programs in marginalized communities. She is currently the Infant Feeding Liaison at BreastfeedLA and Co-chair of the California Breastfeeding Coalition, the Union de Lideres de Lactancia Latino and the California Latinx Lactation Collective. She advocates for reproductive justice for birthing and lactating families. Having experienced cultural stigmas in her own lactation journey, Brenda committed to improving breastfeeding culture for Latino families and other marginalized groups. She envisions closing the equity gap to ensure all parents and infants can reach optimum health throughout the perinatal period and beyond.
