IRS Practitioner Liaison Meeting

A Practitioner Liaison Meeting (PLM) is an outreach and information-sharing meeting between the IRS and members of the tax professional community. These meetings are facilitated by IRS Stakeholder Liaison. During the meeting we share information about IRS programs, procedures, operational changes, emerging issues and topics affecting tax administration. The meeting also serves as a platform for practitioners to share feedback and communicate recurring or systemic issues.

A typical meeting may include:

  • Updates of IRS programs, policies, and procedures
  • Filing season information and operational changes
  • Discussions on emerging scams and taxpayer-data security
  • Information about IRS resources and services
  • Practitioner feedback session
  • Guest speakers from other IRS business units or other agencies

This event will be hosted on the IRS Teams platform and will not qualify for CPE.

A guest speaker from the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) will be invited to join.

Webmaster's personal note: I used to attend monthly meetings with Area 3 Stakeholder Liaisons (SL) along with dozens of tax practitioners across the Area 3 region (AL, DC, IA, IL, IN, KY, MI, NC, OH, TN, VA, WV). I found the meetings to be valuable and informative until they were abruptly cancelled in early 2025. The SL office handles reports of systemic IRS problems and communicates with other business units within the IRS to resolve these issues. They are also your point of contact when reporting a data breach.
