| OpenCPN Seminar OpenCPN is an Open Source software/ Chart Plotter-Navigator program that uses free up-to-date NOAA charts. These load onto your computer or laptop (unfortunately no iPads) and allow you to see all the charts for the area you plan to travel. You can use this tool to create waypoints and routes prior to a cruise from the convenience of our home. Many of our cruise captains use this tool for pre-planning squadron trips. In this seminar you will learn how to download NOAA’s latest electronic navigation charts (ENC) and keep them updated. You will learn to use the numerous tide and current stations up and down the coast. We will show you how to create waypoints and then connect them into routes. You then will be taught how to download the waypoints and/or route to the GPS chart-plotter in your boat via an SD card or electronically with Garmin’s Active Captain app.
Also, please download the OpenCPN program and the local charts in advance of the seminar. You must bring a laptop to class. Once registered instructions on how to do this will be provided.
Cost of the seminar is $10 for USPS members, $15 for non-members. Any questions contact squadron ASEO Dennis Cusanelli at 912-659-2380 |
