NHANRS Presents:
Summer Meeting
Evaluating Wetlands Functions and Values
Friday, August 9, 2024 5.5 contact hour
MEETING DESCRIPTION
The NH Department of Environmental Services requires a functional assessment for larger projects. These evaluations are typically done using the US Army Corps of Engineers Highway Methodology Supplement. Wetland Scientists can use information gathered from office exercises and field visits to identify whether the functions or values exist within the wetland and if they are principal functions. The method can require some interpretation and judgement by the wetland scientist. The goal of the workshop is to review the functions and values. In doing this we hope to generate some discussion and look at the effort that should be used to develop a defensible report. The morning session will be followed by a review of wetlands near the meeting location where small breakout groups can put what was presented to work. We will then gather again to review the findings of the smaller groups. The workshop will also include a short meeting of the association and provide an opportunity for members to discuss current topics in the wetland scientist community.
