Mastering the Art of Depositions: A Hands-On Approach
This program is designed to immerse new lawyers in the essential skills of taking depositions through a dynamic "learning by doing" methodology. In a simulated deposition setting, participants will collaborate with live court reporters from Pike Reporting, enhancing realism and practical learning. The program focuses on persuasive legal and factual theories, the funnel technique for gathering information (moving from general to specific), and the strategic use of exhibits.
The day begins with large group lectures introducing key skills, followed by small-group breakout sessions led by experienced instructors. In these sessions, participants will immediately practice what they’ve learned, receive tailored feedback, and refine their approach through repetition. This iterative process ensures that participants not only understand the techniques but also gain confidence in applying them effectively. Moreover, observing peers tackle similar challenges and hearing constructive critiques provides additional layers of insight and growth.
To further enhance the experience, court reporters from Pike Reporting will be present in the breakout sessions, offering a unique opportunity to learn the nuances of working with court reporters to produce clean, usable transcripts—an invaluable skill for any litigator.
Given the interactive and personalized nature of this training, participation is limited to just 12 attendees, ensuring each lawyer receives focused attention and ample opportunity to hone their deposition skills. |
