Narrative Therapy in Practice

With Suzanne Gazzolo, PhD, LCPC, and Matt Mooney, PhD, LICSW

Dates: Friday, January 31, & Saturday, February 1, 2025; 10 am to 5 pm Eastern Time

Location: Online via Zoom

Maximum participants: 35

This two-day training is for people wanting to learn how narrative therapy ideas are put into practice in therapeutic settings. In particular, we explore externalizing practices and skills in the context of deconstructing and re-authoring therapy conversations. Clinical examples and experiential exercises will help support participants’ learning. Participants can expect to learn how narrative practitioners work to help people separate their lives from problems and identify new steps they can take that fit with their hopes and values. After completing this course, you can further your skill development through NTI's Narrative Certificate Program, which begins each fall.

To enroll in this course, participants need to have completed NTI's "What Is Narrative Therapy?" workshop or an equivalent introductory training about the Narrative Worldview. If you are unsure if you are eligible for this course, email NTI to discuss your previous experience with narrative therapy.

This training will be a live, interactive event using the Zoom web conferencing platform. This training will be livestreamed and recorded for NTI archives. By registering, you agree to be a participant in a livestreaming event that will be recorded for archive purposes only. No segments of this training will be made available via video or audio. If NTI utilizes this recording in the future, all participant activity will be deleted and/or explicit permission will be obtained before any such segments are released.

To ensure maximum participant engagement in the online format, this course is limited to 35 participants.

Suzanne Gazzolo, PhD, LCPC

Suzanne has been a practicing licensed clinical counselor for over 20 years. Her early training and dissertation were rooted in relational and feminist ideas. Inspired by hearing Michael White speak about the social justice orientation of Narrative Therapy, Suzanne immersed herself in learning more about post-structural and narrative ideas at the Evanston Family Therapy Center in Evanston, IL. There she linked with a group of practitioners that continue to collaborate to this day. Matt Mooney has been part of this group and through him, Suzanne was introduced to the exciting work of the Narrative Therapy Initiative and Steve Gaddis. Suzanne works with individuals and families in her independent counseling practice and also enjoys consulting, mentoring, supervision and presenting on topics related to narrative practice. She is on the faculty of Evanston Family Therapy Center and NTI. Suzanne can be reached at sgazzolo@mac.com.
