This 90-minute training tackles the often overlooked and uniquely challenging area of Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders, especially in children who may struggle to describe their experiences. Presented by two experienced clinicians with specialized expertise, participants will learn to recognize early signs, review diagnostic criteria, spot key red flags, and understand the varied themes and patterns of OCD across developmental stages. DESCRIPTION:

Symptoms of Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders are often missed or misunderstood, especially in children who may struggle to explain what they are experiencing. Early recognition makes a meaningful difference in getting individuals the right support. This presentation will enhance participants' understanding of these disorders through reviewing the diagnostic criteria, identifying key red flags to watch for, exploring the different themes and patterns in how OCD presents in everyday life across different developmental stages, and detecting when symptoms are impairing and treatment may be needed.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the diagnostic criteria for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related disorders.
  • Identify key red flags that may indicate the presence of OCD.
  • Recognize common themes and presentation patterns of OCD across developmental stages.
  • Determine when OCD symptoms meet the threshold for clinical impairment and require treatment.

Isabel is a trauma-informed child and adolescent therapist specializing in OCD, anxiety, and behavior challenges, with advanced training in ERP, TF-CBT, SPACE, and PCIT/PCIT-SM. She co-directs Mighty Minds OCD camp and is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to children, teens, and families.


Katherine Gibson, Psy.D., ABPP


Dr. Gibson is a Board-Certified Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychologist specializing in CBT, ERP, TF-CBT, PCIT/PCIT-SM, and SPACE, with extensive expertise in treating anxiety, OCD, trauma, and behavioral disorders in children and teens. She founded Parent and Child Psychological Services, leads specialized clinical training, and has developed multiple evidence-based programs, including OCD and Selective Mutism camps.
