Every Child Can! is an introductory course on the Suzuki philosophy and its application to education. For parents, teachers, prospective teachers and others, this course provides an inspiring, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching and learning. Carey Cheney

Course Instructor

Carey Cheney, a native of Canada, has been teaching and performing for 3 decades. She is a Registered Teacher Trainer of cello for the Suzuki Association of the Americas, and author/recording artist of the series of books and audio recording (eight volumes), Solos For Young Cellists published by Summy-Birchard (Alfred Music Inc.). 

 

She holds the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Cello Performance from University of Utah. For her Master of Music, she studied cello and pedagogy with Phyllis Young. She also studied in Germany for 2 years with Andre Navarra. She has had much international teaching and playing experience, in Europe, Canada, Costa Rica, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.

Most recently, she was a guest presenter at the 2019 European String Teachers Association Regional Conference in Malmo, Sweden in participant in the 2019 International Suzuki Association Teacher Trainer Conference in Madrid, Spain, guest teacher at the Suzuki Talent Education Association of Australia 2018 National Conference in Melbourne Australia, teacher trainer at the Vive la Musica Festival 2016 in Mexico City, teacher trainer at the Festival International Los Cedros-Universidad Panamericana (FICUP) 2014, 2012, 2010 and 2008 in Mexico City.

 

She taught at the 2008, 2012, 2013 Hamilton Branch Summer Suzuki String Institute in Rotorua, New Zealand; she offered teacher courses at the 2012, and 2013 STEAA Professional Development Conference in Sydney; she was invited to teach at 1999 World Suzuki Conference in Matsumoto, Japan.
