Course Description: This immersive Continuing Education Unit (CEU) offers a hands-on exploration of trauma's profound impact on the grieving process. Through experiential learning activities, interactive discussions, and case-based simulations, participants will delve deeply into the intersection of trauma and bereavement. Drawing on a blend of theoretical frameworks and practical insights, this course empowers professionals to integrate experiential techniques into their practice, fostering deeper empathy, understanding, and therapeutic efficacy in supporting individuals navigating trauma-related grief.

Learning Objectives:


  1. Gain Insight into Trauma's Influence on Grief:
  • Understand the intersection of trauma and grief, exploring how traumatic experiences can intensify and complicate the mourning process.
  • Examine the neurobiological mechanisms underlying trauma and its effects on emotional regulation, attachment, and coping strategies in bereaved individuals.


  1. Engage in Experiential Learning to Understand Trauma's Influence on Grief:
  • Participate in experiential exercises designed to illuminate the lived experiences of trauma and grief, fostering empathy and insight into clients' journeys.
  • Reflect on personal and professional narratives to deepen understanding of the interconnectedness of trauma, loss, and bereavement.


  1. Enhance Clinical Competence in Trauma-Informed Bereavement Care:
  • Develop proficiency in identifying signs of trauma in grieving clients, including manifestations of PTSD, complex grief reactions, and somatic symptoms.
  • Acquire trauma-informed communication skills and therapeutic interventions tailored to meet the unique needs of bereaved individuals with a history of trauma.
