Highlights of the program include: fundamentals of single-ply, polyurethane foam, and PMR roof systems; basic concepts and terminology of metal roofing; steep roof design and installation of asphalt shingles, tiles, wood shakes, and shingles; building codes; fire testing/ratings of roofing; a basic understanding of wind interaction upon roofing and typical wind ratings; principles of roof asset management, including roof inspections, maintenance, and nondestructive evaluations.


This course is designed to provide individuals of differing backgrounds with relevant information about roofing technology and design. The chapters vary in intensity, from basic roofing concepts to advanced specific-application principles and theory.


At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

Stephanie Robinson, P.Eng, Director of Building Sciences, Eastern Canada for WSP Canada


Stephanie Robinson, P.Eng., is the Director of Building Sciences, Eastern Canada for WSP Canada Inc. She is based in Ottawa, Ontario and has over 15 years’ experience in the building enclosure industry, including investigation, design, contract administration and construction review of building enclosure components for new and existing construction in both Canada and the United States. She recognizes that there is more than one solution to every challenge and believes that careful consideration of every option will lead to a unique strategy to both fulfill a client’s needs and optimize a building’s performance. Stephanie is a licensed professional engineer in Ontario and a Level 2 Certified Thermographer. She was one of the founding members of the IIBEC Quebec Ontario Chapter and currently sits on the IIBEC Board of Directors as Director of Region VII.

Gary Hamilton, P. Eng., RRC, RRO, Sr. Engineer, Fishburn Sheridan and Associates


Gary joined Fishburn Sheridan and Associates, Consultants as a Senior Engineer in 2022 after retiring as the Technical Manager at the Master Roofers Guarantee of NB at the end of 2021. Gary has been practicing Roof Consulting for over 45 years, became an IIBEC (previously RCI Inc.) member in 2000, and attained his RRO designation in 2003 and his RRC designation in 2004. Gary has participated in several RCI/IIBEC committees including the RRO and RRC Exam Development committees, is a current member of the IIBEC Technical Advisory Committee, and has served on the IIBEC SOC board of directors for several years. Gary was the 2022 recipient of the CRCA Frank Ladner Award in recognition of technical contributions to the roofing industry and the CRCA.
