Title: Board Governance, Conflict, and Ethics is a presentation on the topics of core board governance, what is a conflict of interest, and what ethic rules must a mental health board member abide by. We will discuss the legal responsibilities of a mental health board and a refresh on the basics of running a meeting and a board member’s duties. The presentation will also discuss how to handle relationships in the context of conflicts (statutory and common law) and ethics (the gift ban and prohibited political activities) with common questions such as whether it is it ok at attend a funded agency’s gala or participate in a 5k, whether a mental health board member can volunteer or buy a raffle ticket to raise money for a funded agency, and what a mental health board member’s obligations are if a family is involved in a funded agency.
