ADVANCED Essential Management Skills in the Public-Sector Certificate Program

Carson City - April 2024

This program assists graduates of the original Essential Management Skills in the Public-Sector Certificate Program to apply the skills learned.  In this two-day program, participants will review the major employment laws and legal updates. Participants will also work through a case study where they will act as the “Manager” of the department and determine how to proceed at various stages.  Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their decisions as well as the consequences of their actions or inactions.  Completion of both days is required to earn a certificate.

Note: This course is only available to graduates of the “Essential Management Skills in the Public-Sector” 

Certificate Program.

By the end of this certificate program, participants will be able to:

• Recognize best leadership practices to use among peers.
• Demonstrate situational leadership.
• Analyze when and how tasks should be delegated to employees.
• Utilize job descriptions as tools in various management scenarios.
• Consider legal obligations and personnel policies.
• Identify the proper steps to take in various scenarios.
• Maintain appropriate documentation.
• Practice managing employee performance effectively.
