Child Abuse Prevention Month Training - Safe School Summit

Peeling Back the Layers: A Deep Dive into the Intersectionality of Drug Endangered Children and Human Trafficking with Survivor Insights

Training Objectives:
1) Participants will be able to apply their understanding of the intersection of human trafficking, substance use disorder and drug endangered children.
2) Participants will better be able to identify human trafficking cases in their discipline.
3) Participants will have the ability to utilize vetted practices in applying a trauma-informed, person-centered model to their work.

Russell Smith graduated from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah and was admitted to the bar in 1996. Mr. Smith did defense work for five years in Salt Lake City before being recruited to Nevada where he began his career as a prosecutor in 2001.

Allison Smith has undergraduate and graduate degrees in Human Development and Social Policy from the University of Utah. Allison joined Operation Underground Railroad’s (O.U.R.) Aftercare Team in 2021 and is currently Regional Director for the United States and Canada.

June Haskell is an expert with lived experience and brings vital insight to the discussion of the dynamics of human trafficking. She is certified in trauma-informed, person-centered practices. She also works alongside survivors to empower and support them in their healing journey.
