| Course Description: The 2024 IEBC Essentials seminar provides an overview of the fundamental concepts and requirements of the 2024 International Existing Building Code.
Participants will examine how the IEBC applies to existing buildings and how the code addresses repairs, alterations, additions, changes of occupancy and other work involving existing structures. The course will focus on properly identifying classifications of work and applying the appropriate code provisions based on the scope of a project.
Through discussion of basic tables, code categorizations and a case study, attendees will gain a better understanding of how the IEBC addresses life safety, accessibility, structural improvements, fire protection, means of egress and other considerations unique to existing buildings.
Instructor Bio: William Bracken, PE, SI, CFM Forensic Engineer & ICC - Technical Trainer
William Bracken has more than three decades of experience in civil and structural engineering, with a career focused on design, construction, building codes, standards of care and forensic engineering. His work has included design, analysis, research, instruction and forensic investigations.
Throughout his career, Mr. Bracken has published and presented extensively on topics including building codes, forensic engineering, wind and flood design, structural rehabilitation and the application of emerging technologies. He has also served as Vice Chair and Chair of the Florida Board of Professional Engineers and as an Urban Search & Rescue Structural Specialist.
Among his professional distinctions, Mr. Bracken is a Fellow of both the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), as well as a Board-Certified Diplomate and Fellow of the National Academy of Forensic Engineers (NAFE). He has also been recognized by numerous professional and governmental organizations, including FEMA, for his contributions to the engineering profession and the community. |
