This 2-week course is open to all officers assigned to a dive team in an official capacity within a criminal justice agency. Officers not assigned to a dive team in an official capacity may attend this course; however, there participation must be approved in advance by their agency and the Training Institute Director. 


Prior to entering this course, participants must possess current certifications and email the copies to the coordinator of the following;


1. Advanced Open Water SCUBA Diver (Minimum Requirement)

2. First Aid/CPR/AED

3. Oxygen Provider Certification

4. Medical Statement Form


Students must bring all their own dive gear (mask, fins, snorkel, BCD, regulator-primary & alternate second stage, weights, two cutting tools, timing device, submersible pressure gauge, depth gauge (or dive computer), gloves, booties, exposure suit, primary & secondary dive light, and knife. (Additional gear; swimming goggles, full face mask and dry suit, underwater camera, underwater video system, underwater communication system, and redundant air system "pony bottle")


Students must pass a swim test and basic scuba skills with 100 % completion on the first day of class. Students may retest on any failed component of the swim and basic scuba skills assessment before the next water excercise begins (next day of class). If the student fails to demonstrate the required swim and basic scuba skills as stated, the student has failed Advanced Course 077 Underwater Police Science & Technology and is PROHIBITED from further participation.


Swim Test consists of the following:

  • 400 yard swim
  • 800 yard mask, fins, snorkel swim
  • 15 minute water tread, last two minutes without hands
  • Swim underwater for 20 yards on a single breath
  • 100 yard inert rescue diver tow in full scuba gear
  • Basic scuba skills drill
  • Scuba confidence skills course


The course will combine classroom instruction with practical in-water application. The student will participate in the removal of vehicles from lakes, rock pits, and canals. Students will also search the hull of a freighter at the Port of Miami and participate in helocasting exercises. The student will be exposed to underwater search and recovery, underwater video and photography, underwater crime scene processing and the use of underwater lift bags. This is a salary incentive course for Florida officers. In addition, students must provide a letter on their department letterhead advising if they are taking the course for Salary Incentive or Mandatory Re-Training. All students must complete a Medical Statement Form.

*Please note there are a limited amount of rooms reserved at the special negotiated rate. Early room reservation is highly recommended. Shuttle service to the Miami-Dade Public Safety Training Institute can be made available upon your request directly with the hotel. Notification must be made prior to your arrival to ensure availability.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Due to rising costs and expenses generated by students who register for our courses and do not attend without notification, it has become necessary to institute the following policy:

In order to qualify for a full refund, students (or their employing agencies) must cancel no less than two weeks prior to the commencement of the course. Cancellations must be received via e-mail to the attention of the course coordinator. A confirmation of receipt and a cancellation number must be obtained from the coordinator. No claims will be accepted unless the aforementioned is adhered to. Cancellations made within the two week time period are subject to a $150 fee. Substitutions of students may be made at any time. Please call us immediately if you have any questions.

NOTE: NO-SHOWS (INCLUDING THOSE WHO CANCEL AFTER 3PM ON THE THURSDAY PRECEDING THE COURSE) WILL BE INVOICED THE FULL REGISTRATION FEE.
