Putting the Science of Early Childhood Mental Health to Work in Therapeutic Services

Description:

This three-hour CE workshop examines how early experiences, relationships, stress, and attachment influence the developing brain and body and shape young children’s emotional and behavioral functioning. Participants will apply neurodevelopmental and relationship-based principles to clinical scenarios and explore how developmental and emotional states inform therapeutic responses. The workshop concludes with practical strategies that promote regulation, connection, caregiver capacity, and resilience in therapeutic work with young children and their caregivers.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

1. Describe at least three ways early experiences, relationships, and stress influence brain and body development and identify how these factors may present in young children’s behavior and functioning.
2. Apply neurodevelopmental and relationship-based principles to analyze clinical scenarios and select therapeutic responses that are appropriate to a child’s developmental and emotional state.
3. Develop and demonstrate at least three practical therapeutic strategies that promote regulation, connection, caregiver capacity, and resilience in work with young children and their caregivers.

About the Presenter: Nicolle Moore, MS, IMFT

Nicolle is the Director of Strong Families, where she focuses on strengthening community collaborations, enhancing services for youth and their families, and preventing child abuse and neglect through supportive, family-centered programming. Previously, Nicolle served at the Parent Child Center of Tulsa as Vice President of Early Childhood Initiatives, where she provided leadership, oversight, and advocacy for Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH) and HealthySteps programming. Prior to relocating to Tulsa in 2019, she led the Mental Health in Early Childhood program at Child Focus, overseeing a team of therapists and consultants serving five counties in Southwest Ohio. In addition, she served as a Regional Master Trainer under the Whole Child Matters Grant, funded by the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health. Nicolle is deeply committed to the belief that children develop within the context of their family and community systems. She is passionate about empowering caregivers with the tools and support needed to nurture their child’s development, helping children not only survive, but truly thrive.

The Child Focus Training Center is approved through the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board.

This program is offered for 3.0 clock hours of continuing education for counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists.

Psychologists: The Child Focus Training Center is approved by the Ohio Psychological Association MCE program to offer

continuing education for Ohio psychologists. This program is offered for 3.0 clock hours of continuing education for psychologists.

Child Focus, 00PD-3109-52668, maintains responsibility for the program.   

Cancellation Policy: The Training Center must be notified 7 days prior to a training via telephone, fax or email in order to cancel a registration and receive a full refund. We will send information regarding updates and cancellations to the email address used to

register for the training. We will also have this information updated on the CF website under Services Tab, then Education and Training.
