In recent years, state courts and litigants have increasingly looked to their state constitutions as independent sources for defining the scope of rights. Join a distinguished panel of appellate judges for a discussion on why and how state constitutions are being applied for issues from redistricting to gun control. Explore the role of state constitutions in our federalism and in the development of law, and, learn how to familiarize yourself with your state constitution. Consider the differing processes for amending state constitutions, as well as the opportunities and concerns of federal divergence.
