Speaker Bio: Darren has over 30 years of experience in building envelope design, engineering and manufacturing.Since 2010 Darren manages the SOPREMA US “inside” technical team, manages external testing/approvals programs, and manages technical oversight for the SOPREMA warranty department.Prior to SOPREMA, Darren was Vice President of REI Engineers, and was a property loss prevention engineer with FM Global.Darren has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, is a licensed professional engineer (PE), a fire protection engineer, and a registered roof consultant (RRC).

Tech Session Topic: Resilient Solutions for Extreme Risks

Course Description

This presentation reviews the importance of low-slope roofing and the impact roofing has on critical/essential facilities and community resilience.

Learning Objectives:

1. Review resilience as it relates to building roofs.

2. Identify weather-related risks that affect building & community resilience.

3. Review requirements for storm shelters and critical/essential facilities.

4. Discuss “secondary membranes” for roofing that provide redundancy for storm shelters, and critical & essential facilities.
