EWRG March Lunch & Learn: University of Portland Flume Tour

The University of Portland sediment transport flume is a 12 m long x 1 m deep x 0.5 m wide analog model of a river. The facility is capable of modeling real-world scenarios such as flood hydrographs, large upstream sediment pulses, and the effects of infrastructure like weirs or engineered log jams. A state-of-the-art laser scanner and sonar probe allows us to rapidly track changing patterns of scour and sediment deposition on the riverbed. On this tour, we'll see the flume in action, look at example data products, and brainstorm ways that the flume could be used in engineering applications.
