Decay-Testing, Biology, Bio-Mechanics

In this workshop, Chris Luley, Ph.D. (President, Urban Forest Diagnostics, LLC) discusses fungal identification, biology and life cycles. He also explains how different decay organisms interact with their host. Frank Rinn, inventor of the RESISTOGRAPH and ARBOTOM (Owner, RINNTECH) discusses tree biology and biomechanics, and how breaking forces act on trees in various states of decay. The information provided by these experts will assist you in managing trees with decay more effectively. Member $400. Non-Member $435. 14.5 CEUs. Includes Luley's "Wood Decay Fungi" (a $54 value).

SPEAKERS

Dr. Chris Luley has a 40+ year career in urban forestry and arboriculture. He is the former State Forest Pathologist for the Missouri Department of Conservation and ran the Plant Diagnostic Clinic at Iowa State University. He is currently based in upstate New York and operates Urban Forest Diagnostics. His book “Wood Decay Fungi” is well known to many arborists and his collaborative website www.treerot.com is popular. He is a recipient of the R.W. Harris Author’s Award from the International Society of Arboriculture and the Lifetime Achievement Award from New York State Arborists, ISA Chapter, Inc. and Author Award from the Midwest Chapter of ISA.

Frank Rinn, inventor of the RESISTOGRAPH® and ARBOTOM® is world famous as an instructor on tree inspection and can help to make you a more expert arborist. Frank owns RINNTECH, a company that develops equipment for dendrochronology, tree and timber inspection since 1988. Frank invented and developed different methods, machines, and computer programs for various purposes in dendrochronology, tree- and timber inspection: resistance drilling, tree-ring measuring and cross-dating, dynamic tree analysis, sonic tree tomography, sonic root detection, wood surface density analysis. Frank works as a court registered expert, inspecting trees and timber (structures). Frank gives lectures and training regularly in many different countries such as USA, Europe, South America, and Asia – not only for experts but furthermore at Universities. Already as a teenager, Frank started activities in voluntary organizations. Since 2001, he serves as voluntary Executive Director of ISA Germany, represented his chapter on several board meetings, joined the ISA Tree-Risk Panel of Experts and contributed to the corresponding BMP. In addition, he was a member of German (www.fll.de) and international standardization expert panels (www.rilem.org). From 2011 to 2013 he served on the ISA Board of Directors (www.isa-arbor.com).
