2026 First Receiver Operations and Decontamination for Healthcare Course

This course covers the first receiver operation requirements for hospital personnel who may encounter a contaminated patient from an external release of hazardous material or other substances including chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) agents. This course will cover both internal and external incidents. Participants will be taught both directed self-decontamination and how to be a functioning member of a hospital decontamination team.

*BRN/CE’s are available for this course.

DAY ONE

  • Welcome and Overview
  • Recognition and Safety
  • Safety, Isolation and Notifications/Directed Self Decontamination Command and HICS
  • Identification, Hazard Assessment and Action Plans (SDS, Hospital Plan & various chemical reference books)
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Control Measures


DAY TWO

Decontamination.

  • Basic HazMat Review; Terms, Chemical & Physical Properties
  • Employers’ Safety Guidelines and Hazard Assessment/Disaster Plan
  • Basic Incident Command System
  • Selection of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Perform containment and control operations
  • Implement decontamination procedure and rescue


Skills Rotation

Decon Operations Setup (15 min rotations)

  • Connecting the water supply
  • Connecting the electric supply
  • Setting up the tent
  • Donning and doffing PPE w/ respirator use


CCH Haz Mat presentation


Filtered Air Cartridges Training & Skills

Full Face Masks with CBRNE cartridges -PAPR’s


Decon Exercise w/ all Personnel

Full Exercise



An IEC certificate of training will be provided to those who satisfactorily complete the course.


**Prerequisites - This is an entry level course for Awareness and Operations, no prerequisites are

required.

**Students recertifying are only required to attend Day 2 of the course.
