Dr. Will Bledsoe, Primary Instructor
Author, The Restorative Way
Restorative Way was founded 20 years ago by Dr. Will Bledsoe to advance and develop restorative communication practices and programming that help people move through trauma, entrenched conflict and broken relationships in a way that is noble, honest, heart- full, and reintegrative.
Since that time, RWay practices and programming have been implemented in the justice system, k12 schools, universities, hospitals, families and workplaces. “To be a restorative practitioner requires being willing to step into the middle of conflict and contempt with courage, empathy, humility, and a ferocious commitment to the wellbeing of others. Restorative Way is committed to helping people build relationship-centric cultures and communities.”

Ben Emery, Transformative Leadership Mojo
Ben Emery’s first encounter with restorative justice was a run-in with the police as a 22-year-old offender. The ensuing restorative circle proved an initiation by fire, kicking off a tour that would span two decades, four continents, and thousands of restorative processes.
In 2009, Ben was selected by the U.S. State Department as one of America’s 24 emerging young peacemakers, sent to Northern Ireland to monitor the peace process ten years after the Good Friday Agreement.
Ben has practiced victim-led justice in the favelas of Brazil, Family Group Decision Making in New Zealand and Grief Structure work in Canada. He has facilitated countless restorative circles in American schools and served as special project manager for the Colorado State Council on Restorative Justice.
Ben holds a Master’s in Restorative Practices in Youth Counseling from the International Institute for Restorative Practices Graduate School in Pennsylvania.

Restorative Justice on The Rise was founded in 2011 by Molly Rowan Leach to answer to the perceived need for an easily accessible people's platform for storytelling, connection, and practical empowering skills and restorative tools--at a global scale. RJOTR was the very first podcast focused on restorative justice, inviting a live audience to almost every interview and discussion.
Since 2011 RJOTR has had the privilege of supporting and working alongside a great many practitioners, political representatives, academics, and grassroots changemakers.
As a survivor of her mother's long-term incarceration, Ms. Leach dove into independent research on the state of US prisons while writing for major blog and news outlets, also gaining deep mentorships with leaders in the RJ field and Wisdom keepers from global Indigenous practices and social healing and human rights experts.
You will see her in each session as your host and guide. In addition, the tone that RJOTR strives to set for every course is one of connection and empowerment as a global community.

“Dr. Bledsoe is a well-recognized pioneer of restorative justice dialogue in Colorado and beyond.
His leadership laid a solid foundation for transitioning RJ from the justice system to schools. My work in the field of conflict management was greatly influenced by his on-the-ground insights. He is a no-nonsense practitioner and scholar who provides an immediate compass for the rest of us.”

“I was overwhelmed with the depth and variety of his contributions. Will truly embodies the values and actions of an engaged citizen, whose work contributes to the vitality of the communities we serve.”
Dr. Stanley Deetz, Director – Center for the Study of Conflict, Collaboration and Creative Governance at C.U. Boulder, United States

"Dr. Bledsoe is deeply committed to the study of peace and justice, which he approaches from a communication perspective. His dissertation, for instance, documented and analyzed a new model of restorative justice conferences that he created and implemented at the University of Colorado at Boulder (UCB), which combined traditional restorative justice studies and Navajo peacemaking principles.
Prior to Dr. Bledsoe’s participation, that program was floundering and close to being eliminated. Dr. Bledsoe revived the program, instituted many new practices, and, thereby, provided it with a national reputation. It was the first program in the nation to process student off-campus crime."

Praise for RJ on The Rise |

“On March 23, 2020, RJOTR launched the first support circles for practitioners which were an incredible learning experience for me. Without that experience I would not have realized the potential of virtual circles so quickly. I am deeply grateful to Molly for initiating those online support circles. We discovered that we can still belong to each other in deep ways across thousands of miles and through a screen!
Molly’s technical skill and her commitment to meaningful relationships allowed us to use the technology to increase belonging, transcending the limitations of geography to care about one another in our shared distress and fears. When we felt helpless to change the external conditions, we came together over the internet and listened to one another, shared our stories and knew we were not alone and knew others cared about us.”

“Restorative Justice on The Rise makes history as the first public media platform devoted to restorative justice. Scores of inspiring interviews, talks, panels, circles, and dialogues that reimagine justice have made their way into the headphones, car stereos, and daily lives of countless listeners globally. The power of public media to create narrative change cannot be overestimated. This public forum open to a global citizenry not only helps shift the narrative but also redirects the course of what is possible in our individual and communal futures.“
