Workshops led by MEIPN Instructors
Infant/Toddler Practical Life Explore the range of practical life possibilities for students 14-36 months old, with extra attention to those children just entering or ready to leave the group. Current MEIPN instructor Caitlin Hubele-Messett leads this hands-on learning experience. Refresh your repertoire and feel confident meeting the needs of each child in your toddler environment.
Early Childhood Math MEIPN Director Emeritus and current MEIPN instructor, Mary Schneider, will help participants to reassess and update their approach to EC math. You will walk through each strand of the EC math curriculum and consider application of new research about the development of mathematical thinking; common biases, misunderstandings or unproductive practices; assessment methods; troubleshooting individual challenges; and ways to address elements of EC math skill building that your Montessori training may not have addressed. The workshop will also consider ways to incorporate culturally responsive instructional practices and materials.
Language Science of Reading— Not sure how to apply this to your work in the classroom or not sure where to start? Laurel Lynn Swol, a MEIPN instructor for many years, can help. Participants in this workshop will learn about current research and the “reading brain”. At the end of the workshop, they will be able to apply “The Big 5 Components of Reading” into their teaching while incorporating Montessori materials.
Lower Elementary Geography—Have you been looking for ways to bring geography to life for students? Current MEIPN instructor and lower elementary teacher Veronica Juarez helps her students to connect their own experiences to their understanding of geography and culture. Join her to learn how to use your own passions to inspire students.
Language - Science of Reading—Kellie Teegarden has much to share about the science of reading and how it can be used to support lower elementary students. Participants will learn about scientific research and how to connect it with materials in the classroom to help their students become confident readers. Kellie is a lower elementary teacher at Geiger Montessori and a future MEIPN instructor.
Upper Elementary Practical Life—Practical life in the upper elementary classroom incorporates a lot of different things. One of those key elements is an exploration of identity and self-expression. Susan Andree has experience teaching upper elementary and adolescents. Through her experience she has found ways to support students in this area. In this workshop, participants will develop activities that support the expression of personal identity and discuss its relevance to care of self and others.
Math—Join Susan as she gives a demonstration of cubing and cube root. If there are other lessons you are interested in reviewing, bring your questions! |
