The Anti-Racist Community Network (ARCN) presents:

Power of Visibility: Uncovering Asian American Experiences
in the Criminal Legal System

with Justin Chan

Wednesday, October 7, 2026, 7:00-8:30pm ET / 5:00-6:30pm PT

For decades, the "model minority" myth has sanitized the Asian American experience, celebrating success while ignoring systemic struggle. This blind spot is devastatingly real for those caught in our criminal legal systems, which have historically targeted Asian Americans and continue to do so at alarming rates today. In practice, this bias manifests in critical, unaddressed gaps — from severe language barriers to a lack of culturally responsive reentry support. Join Justin Chan, editorial director at the Innocence Project, as he exposes how harmful narratives have masked deep-seated injustice and hindered meaningful reform for justice-impacted Asian Americans.

Meet our facilitator:

Justin Chan is the editorial director at the Innocence Project, where he leads impactful storytelling to elevate advocacy and policy reform around wrongful convictions. He previously spent more than a decade covering issues impacting underrepresented communities, writing for Law.com, Complex, Mic, Forbes, Entrepreneur.com, and Yahoo. He holds a master's degree in magazine journalism from Columbia Journalism School and a bachelor's degree in political science and English from Macaulay Honors College. During his spare time, he writes on Unhyphenated, a Substack exploring Asian American identity, culture, and the ongoing fight against otherness.

About the Anti-Racist Community Network (ARCN)

We are building a pathway to the emerging anti-racist, multiracial society…

The ARCN is a multiracial, anti-racist online community working to achieve racial justice and end white supremacy through activism and organizing. Our members want to be actively networking against racism and white supremacy. Through education and activism, we are working together for real and lasting societal change.

The Anti-Racist Community Network is owned and operated by the Center for the Study of White American Culture, Inc. Founded in 1995, we are known in anti-racist circles. Our operating philosophy for ARCN is to create a big tent. If you are comfortable working under our explicit expectation that you support racial justice and building anti-racist multiracial community, then you are welcome and we invite you to come.
