Description:

This training is designed to provide awareness to combat the stigma, misinformation, and isolation or "othering" of justice-impacted people and families. Stigma, biases, and misinformation leads to the segregation and ostracizing of justice-involved people, leading to cultural narratives that create more barriers. Participants will get a general overview on the importance community support plays in helping justice-involved people and the impact of reentry locally. Justice-involved people are not somewhere "over there" but are the people like you and me who live in our communities, work in our communities, shop in our communities, and so on. How we engage and even talk about justice-involved people, MATTERS! Lastly, each person will walk out of this training with tangible, practical ways to advocate for justice-involved people and their families. This fosters change on all levels, from our neighborhoods to the systems, processes, and policies. These factors make reentry a challenging thing for both those navigating the journey themselves and for those who want to help, but don't know how. These learning outcomes will ultimately strengthen community support and hopefully begin the much needed change we need to see in Stark County around reentry and how we support those who are justice-involved.

About the Presenter

Stanley Frankart

Stanley Frankart has been justice-impacted since he was 10 years old. After serving 10 years in prison from 16 until 26, his life mission became to restore, renew, and provide hope to the same communities he once polluted. Stanley considers his role as a husband and father his greatest contribution and biggest blessing in this life and to this work. Understanding that people who are justice-involved have families, own homes, have businesses, and contribute to society just as the rest of society does, Stanley advocates in a real and personal way. Stanley serves as the Reentry Housing Programs Supervisor for the Licking County Coalition for Housing helping to raise awareness for those returning home from prison homeless and working collaboratively with community partners to meet people's needs as they transition home from prison. Stanley also serves as a statewide advocate through Young Christian Professionals for permanent supportive housing and peer support, working extensively to ensure people have access to the necessary resources, in order for all people whether coming home from prison or in the community, to live self-directed and successful lives, all from a Christ-centered and Biblio-centric perspective. Stanley has served in many capacities and now works nationally to advocate, impact change, and effect policies and funding for reentry initiatives and working towards equity for those who are justice-involved across the country, using his lived experience as expertise in this field.
