Marcus Coleman, United Way Worldwide

Marcus Coleman has spent nearly two decades doing the work of disaster response and recovery alongside the people who carry that weight locally, before a crisis hits and in the hard months after. As Vice President of Community Resilience Strategy at United Way Worldwide, he partners with the United Way network, to build the relationships and plans that hold up when a storm, flood, or wildfire arrives.

His path here ran through federal emergency management. Marcus served as Director of the Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships at the Department of Homeland Security, where he built a coalition of more than 150 national organizations and worked on the ground through more than 60 presidentially declared disasters, including Operation Allies Welcome. Before that, at FEMA, he led national partnership and outreach programs and was lead author of the agency’s guide for engaging faith-based and community organizations in emergency management.
