The Pavek Museum connects generations by sharing the story of how electronic communication transformed society. That story did not end with radio and television. It continues today in the phones in our children's pockets and in the artificial intelligence tools they increasingly turn to for companionship and advice.

Every communication technology preserved in the Museum's collection arrived with public debate about its effect on children, and society responded with norms, standards, and public interest obligations. Today's communication technologies have arrived faster than those safeguards, and Minnesota families are living the consequences.



Take a look inside the living history of electronic communication and ask what the next chapter of that history should look like. It is a natural extension of the museum's mission to preserve knowledge of the past and inspire innovation.

The conversation will feature Minnesota families who have lost children to online harms and Minnesota legislators leading the policy response.

SAVE: Suicide Awareness Voices of Education is a national nonprofit working to prevent the tragedy of suicide through education, advocacy, lethal means safety efforts, and support for suicide loss survivors.

State Representative Kristin Bahner (DFL, Maple Grove)

Representative Bahner represents District 37B in the Minnesota House of Representatives and is one of the Legislature’s leading voices on protecting children online. She is the chief author of the Minnesota Kids Code, also known as the Age-Appropriate Design Code, a nation leading effort requiring companies to assess and mitigate risks to children before harm is done. Drawing on more than 30 years of experience in the information technology industry, she has built a broad coalition of legislators, parents, and advocates, including SAVE, in support of safer online design for kids.

Jamie Bremseth (Olivia, MN)

Jaime Bremseth is the founder and president of the Carter Bremseth Memorial Foundation, created in memory of her son Carter, who died in 2021 at age 16 after being targeted in a sextortion scheme, a fast-growing online crime in which predators coerce young people with threats to share private images. The foundation supports families who have lost a child or sibling to suicide, helps children through all types of grief, provides education about suicide, sextortion, mental health, and digital wellness, and offers a virtual suicide loss support group for adults. Jaime is also a mental health professional who works primarily with children, adolescents, and people in crisis. She and her husband Dan, the foundation’s co-founder and vice president, share Carter’s story with families, schools, and law enforcement across Minnesota in the hope of saving other children’s lives. During the 2026 Minnesota Legislative session, Jaime and Dan advocated for and successfully passed “Carter’s Law.” This important legislation increases criminal penalties for online blackmail and sextortion.

State Representative Peggy Scott (GOP, Andover)

Representative Scott represents Andover in the Minnesota House of Representatives, where she serves as co-chair of the Judiciary Finance and Civil Law Committee. She has championed a fundamental redesign of social media for minors, calling for an end to targeted ads, push notifications, and infinite scrolling for young users, along with the strongest privacy protections. She is also the chief author of legislation to keep artificial intelligence out of psychotherapy, insisting that mental health care be provided by educated, trained, and licensed professionals, not chatbots.

Bridgette Norring (Hastings, MN)

Bridgette Norring is a survivor parent, advocate, speaker, and founder of the Devin J. Norring Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to fentanyl awareness, prevention, and education. After losing her 19-year-old son, Devin, to fentanyl poisoning in 2020, Bridgette turned her grief into action, educating communities and advocating for policies that protect families. She is also a passionate advocate for children and families impacted by social media harms and technology, working to hold tech companies accountable and give parents a stronger voice in protecting their children.
