| Our theme for the 2024 year of Community Cafes is "Deepening our Practice”. We will be using the World Cafe Design Principles as our guiding North Star, and each month, we will deepen our inquiry into one of the design principles.
Looking at this empty chair in the spotlight, so many questions come up. Where is it? Are there other chairs? Who will be sitting on this chair? Is it on a stage? If yes, who is in the audience? Is this image a small part of a larger picture? If yes, what do the other parts show?
We just see a wooden chair - and do not have any information on the context. This might sometimes happen when we meet a stranger, hear the beginning of a story, or listen to a potential client for the first time. What is being shared? What is not being said? This happens in our everyday lives and in our work.
Join us in conversations about the first World Cafe design principle: Clarifying the Context. What are elements “around” and “beyond” - elements that might affect the immediate situation? What is the story “beneath the story”? What might be the “quest behind the question”? Whether you are a long-time practitioner of World Cafe or other participatory practices - or you are simply curious to experience a World Cafe - or you are drawn in by the topic - you are VERY welcome.
These Community Cafes give us as a global community a time to "lean in"; a time to listen to others and to speak our truth. A time to remember we are in this together. |
