Who should attend: Anyone who has previously attended the basic CLC training (part 1) with StarkMHAR.


Description: The Cultural Competency Training (CCT) Advanced module will increase the awareness, knowledge and skills required to function effectively with cultural differences that may be present in the area of medical services, service organizations and agencies, medical interpretation and community partnership. The CCT Advanced curriculum includes, but is not limited to: building a culturally competent system of care and community partnership.

About the Presenter:

Iliana Smith, MA

Iliana Smith is the Diversity & Equity Coordinator at Stark County Mental Health and Addiction Recovery. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish for Healthcare, with a minor in Sociology, from Walsh University in 2018, Iliana worked in the healthcare system - specifically working with underserved populations and limited English proficiency individuals. Iliana returned to her alma matter, landed a graduate assistantship in Residence Life/Student Affairs, and graduated in 2022 with her Masters in Counseling & Human Development with a focus in Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE). Iliana has many years of experience in healthcare, counseling, non-profit organizations, faith-based services, and social justice advocacy, specifically immigration. Iliana is currently licensed as a Level II Trainer with the Cross-Cultural Healthcare Program. CCHCP has been bridging gaps between communities and healthcare systems nationwide to advance equity and access of services for over 30 years. As part of a marginalized population herself, Iliana's passion is to create and cultivate spaces where young diverse professionals can thrive while also educating and encouraging organizations in strengthening their DEIB efforts (diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging).
