Marine Construction in the Chicago Area – Thatcher Foundations

Marine construction in the Chicago area will be discussed in a general sense from design and permitting through installation. The design and permitting challenges far exceed those of typical construction projects since, in addition to satisfying the City of Chicago and Office of Underground Coordination, there are federal and state agencies who must be satisfied. The focus will be on steel sheet piles, whether used along the rivers or on the lakefront and their associated anchorage systems. Case histories will be presented to illustrate these concepts.
