Ethics in Everyday Peer Support

This training explores the real-life ethical situations peer supporters commonly encounter while balancing authenticity, professionalism, and participant safety. Attendees will examine topics such as confidentiality, mandated reporting basics, gifts and favors, transportation boundaries, dual relationships, and navigating community overlap in recovery settings. Through practical scenarios and discussion, attendees will learn how to apply ethical decision-making strategies, recognize situations that require consultation or supervision, and respond in ways that protect both the participant and the peer relationship. 

Learning Objectives:

1. Recognize common ethical challenges encountered in peer support settings, including confidentiality, dual relationships, gifts and favors, transportation, and community overlap. 
2. Apply an ethical decision-making process to real-world peer support scenarios in ways that promote participant well-being, trust, and recovery-oriented practice. 
3. Identify situations that require consultation, supervision, or additional support to ensure ethical, professional, and safe peer support services. 

A 1.0 CEU certificate will be awarded to peer professionals after attending the full training and submitting an evaluation.
