Presentation Overview: CFOs at the Crossroads: AI, Enterprise Productivity, & New Risk Landscape

As artificial intelligence begins to reshape the enterprise, finance leaders stand at a strategic crossroads. On one hand, AI offers new pathways to productivity—streamlining processes, elevating productivity, and unlocking faster, data-driven decision-making. On the other, it introduces novel risks—governance gaps, data integrity concerns, regulatory uncertainty, and talent disruption.

This panel discussion brings together senior financial executives who are grappling with these dual imperatives: how to harness AI’s transformative potential while protecting the enterprise from unintended consequences. Together, we’ll explore how AI is changing core finance functions, how investments in AI are being evaluated, and how CFOs are helping their organizations navigate both opportunity and exposure.

Attendees will gain insights, real-world examples, and actionable guidance to move from curiosity to confidence—whether your company is just starting, experimenting, or scaling. Join us to map a thoughtful, forward-looking approach to AI in your enterprise.

Ali is recognized for building high-performing teams, fostering collaborative cultures, and delivering sustainable business outcomes. Ali’s previous experience includes serving as Chief Financial Officer and SVP at Accuray, as well as holding executive roles at GE Healthcare and GE Corporate Audit Staff. He earned his MBA in Finance and Operations from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, an MS in Healthcare Technologies Management from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Marquette University.

Erik Vandermause, VP Applied Intelligence

Erik Vandermause is a senior technology executive with 29 years of experience specializing in transforming the front-office for growth and efficiency in Insurance. As an Engineer leading M3's Applied Intelligence team, Erik excels at reimagining the customer and frontline employee experience. Erik is recognized for leading his team to realize the promise of value from data, analytics, digital and AI solutions. Erik held previous leadership roles as a Managing Director at Accenture, a global technology consulting firm, as well as executive roles at TruStage. He earned his Masters in Industrial Engineering from UW-Madison and most recently completed a certificate in Leading with Analytics and Artificial Intelligence from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. Erik lives with his wife in Oregon, WI.

As Director of the UWEBC, Doug Barton provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for this premier university-industry partnership involving more than 80 companies across diverse industries. Doug manages UWEBC staff, including practice directors and shared-services teams in event and member services, marketing, communications, and sales. He ensures the high-quality delivery and continuous improvement of UWEBC’s offerings, including peer-to-peer learning forums and advisory services designed to advance thought leadership, innovative business strategies, and emerging technologies.

Doug plays a pivotal role in establishing and nurturing relationships with member companies. He coordinates strategic initiatives aimed at sustainable growth and enhanced UW impact on Wisconsin industry under the Wisconsin Idea. Additionally, he leads the UWEBC Advisory Board and collaborates closely with industry and corporate relations professionals and executive and professional development programs across the UW-Madison campus.

With over 30 years of experience, Doug brings extensive expertise from mission-driven and values-rich organizations, including senior leadership roles at UBIX.AI and IBM. He is an accomplished speaker, having presented globally on design thinking, entrepreneurship, disruptive technology, AI, and innovation.
