Continental breakfast and lunch provided. Continuing Education credits available (see below).
Morning Session: Trauma, the Brain, and Hope Workshop Description: Kids with tough histories often exhibit some “tough” behaviors, like opposition, aggression, and defiance. It’s a brain thing! Take some time to fill your toolbox with the user-friendly BraveBrains framework and trauma-informed strategies that really work! Discover the hopeful side of neuroscience, with plenty of user-friendly applications for all ages. Trauma changes the brain. You can be a source of healing. There’s hope. Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to explain the brain’s key operating systems in accessible, everyday language
- Participants will be able to reframe challenging behaviors through a strengths-based, trauma-informed lens
- Participants will be able to implement three practical, research-backed strategies to support brain function and foster positive behavior in both children and staff
Afternoon Session: Unpacking Big Feelings Workshop Description: Stress, anxiety, anger, and shame take a toll—not just on the children we serve, but on us as professionals. Many young clients struggle with frustration tolerance and emotional regulation, making it difficult to engage in therapy, school, or relationships. While there are no quick fixes for life’s complex challenges, this hands-on workshop will provide practical, brain-based strategies to strengthen emotional resilience—for both clients and clinicians. Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to use the morning's learning to examine behavior through a strengths-based lens
- Participants will be able to discuss common misconceptions about coping skills
- Participants will be able to practice at least 5 practical and effective resilience-boosting strategies
- Participants will be able to adapt strategies to fit diverse professional settings
- Participants will be able to design implementation plans for their specific work environments
