Join the Minnesota Oak Savanna Chapter for their very first Burn School training! Registration includes two days of training on November 8 and November 9 to complete the classroom and field training components. Completing both components is required to obtain certification of completion of The Prairie Enthusiasts' prescribed burn crew member training. Capacity is limited so register today! Stephen Winter, The Prairie Enthusiasts' qualified Burn Boss from the Minnesota Driftless Chapter, will assist participants to learn about and practice use of various hand tools commonly used for prescribed burns in the Upper Midwest.

Dates, Times and Locations

Classroom Training

Saturday, November 8 - 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Lebanon Hills Regional Park, Greenhouse Head House (832 Cliff Rd, Eagan, MN 55123) - MAP HERE

When driving, turn off of Cliff Road onto Hay Lake Road, and it’s the first driveway on the left hand side of Hay Lake Road.


The indoor classroom component will include course topics such as fire ecology, the use of prescribed fire in land management, prescribed burning techniques, safety and PPE, prescribed burn plans, and equipment. Class content will be focused on relatively small (1-50 acres) prescribed burns commonly conducted in the Upper Midwest for the restoration and management of prairies and savannas, with an emphasis on the use of hand tools.


Equipment Field Training

Sunday, November 9 - 9:00 a.m. to Noon

The outdoor equipment field training component will allow participants to learn about and practice the use of various hand tools commonly used for relatively small (1-50 acres) prescribed burns in the Upper Midwest.


What to Bring

For the classroom training, please bring materials to take notes, water and a lunch/snacks. Some snacks and beverages will be provided.
