2024 Young Artist Piano Competition Registration

Rules and General Information


Eligibility


Student pianists currently enrolled in grades K-12 in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, and Lee County public or private schools, or county residents who are home schooled.


Categories


Early Elementary  Ages 5-8

Late Elementary  Ages 9-11

Junior  Ages 12-14

Senior  Ages 15-18

  • Category placement is based on age as of April 27, 2024.
  • First place winners from the previous years must advance to the next category until they reach the age of the category to which they were advanced.
  • If a student wins first place twice in the Senior Division or is the Overall Winner twice, they are retired from the competition. 


Repertoire


Early Elementary competitors must memorize and perform two contrasting pieces of age appropriate repertoire.

Late Elementary through Senior competitors must memorize and perform two pieces of standard published solo repertoire by master composers.

  • The first piece must represent the Baroque or Classical era (1600-1825).
  • The 2nd piece must be from the Romantic, Impressionist or Contemporary eras (1825-present).

Scores


A legal, licensed published edition (no copies) of each piece must be provided at the competition with measures numbered at the beginning of every line. Music will be checked at registration for numbered measures and original scores. Repeats are allowed, at the discretion of the teacher, if within time limits.


No teaching or method pieces, no cuts, or photocopies. By entering the competition, you agree to abide by all Federal Copyright Laws. Specific questions about specific scores may be sent to the Competition Chair, Mary Seal, at [email protected] no later than April 17, 2024.


Students will not be allowed to take part in the competition if their music does not comply with these regulations.


Time Limits - Performers who exceed their time limit will be stopped.


Early Elementary  5 minutes

Late Elementary  8 minutes

Junior   12 minutes

Senior  15 minutes



The recital hall and/or practice rooms at the Bower School of Music are not available for warm-up on the day of the competition or anytime before.


Application


Completed, correct application forms must be submitted with the $40.00 application fee payable to the Steinway Piano Society by Friday, April 12.

Late applications will be accepted until Friday, April 19, with an application fee of $50.00.


No applications will be accepted after April 19, 2024. There are no refunds once an application is submitted.


Competition

Competitors will be notified of their performance recital time via e-mail by April 23.


Dress Code

Concert attire is expected for both the Competition and the Awards Recital.


Notification

Teachers of finalists will be informed via email or phone which piece their student(s) will perform at the Awards Recital following the competition. It is the teacher’s responsibility to notify their student(s).

Finalists will also be posted at www.YAPC.SteinwayNaples.com.

All finalists are required to perform at the Awards Recital.


Awards Recital

Sat, May 11, 2024 - Time TBD

U. Tobe Recital Hall, FGCU Bower School of Music.

Presentation of all awards and prizes will take place at the conclusion of the recital.


This recital is free and open to the public!

Additional Winner Performances


Winners may be invited to perform for the Steinway Piano Society members and patrons during the next concert series. Date and time will be announced.

By applying, you, your parent or guardian, and your teacher all submit that you all have reviewed and agree to abide by the rules of the competition.


Once you've done that, all that's left to do is submit your application and start practicing!
