Early Chinese Medicine is rooted in shamanism and the shaman’s practice of connecting with the dynamics of fauna. Acknowledging their crucial role as guardians of the ecosystem, a vital aspect of shamanism is understanding the symbiotic relationship between plants and humans.
Communion with plants can provoke and induce deep realizations in the human psyche. While other traditions of shamanism utilized psychotropic substances to invite these revelations, Chinese shamanism emphasized medicinals that supported a more disciplined method of attaining communication with the spirits.
Recorded by early Daoists, these herbs became a crucial parameter to their cultivation and journeys into other realms of consciousness.
