Prescribed Burn Association

Are you a landowner, rancher or farmer needing assistance with managing fire through controlled burns on your terrain?
Are you concerned about the heavy fuel load creeping across the landscape - through woody encroachment?
Are you interested in working together as 'neighbors helping neighbors' to protect property and livestock?

Attend this Organizational Meeting to launch one (or two) new chapters for area Prescribed Burn Associations in East Central and Northeast Kansas. Anyone is welcome!

Luke Berning


Luke is the Fuels Specialist for KFS, responsible for implementing a statewide fuel management program in order to reduce the occurrence of catastrophic wildfires in Kansas. Luke is a resource for communities seeking assistance managing their fuels, from finances and education to planning and implementation. Luke works around the state to suppress active wildfires. Luke is currently based out of Topeka.

Joe Piezuch


Joe is the President of the Eastern Kansas Prescribed Burn Association (EKPBA) which exists to cooperatively provide its members with the right equipment, training, and experienced help to safely conduct controlled burns in Miami and Johnson Counties. Joe is a Miami County landowner, lives in Johnson County, and has been with EKPBA since its establishment in 2018.
