Description:

This course is designed to provide each participant with an understanding of the science and theory behind the practice of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Participants will review material, engage in discussions and participate in activities centered on developing a working knowledge of this practice. Participants will learn how ACT can benefit the clients they serve as well as gain an understanding of how to explain the approach and use basic concepts in the treatment of mood disorders, substance use, PTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder. 


Objectives:

1.     Participants will understand the science and research that supports the efficacy of ACT in the treatment of behavioral health disorders.

2.     Participants will understand the 6 core processes of ACT and demonstrate the ability to implement processes in practice through role plays/case study discussion.

3.     Participants will review and increase competence with ACT practice, including willingness, cognitive fusion, mindfulness, conceptualized self, and using a life map.

4.     Participants will apply ACT tools to case studies that exemplify treatment with those who have mood disorders, anxiety disorders and borderline personality disorder.

5.     Participants will review and understand ways to utilize ACT in individual, group, and couples counseling.

About the Presenter:

Meghan J. Fawcett, MSED, LPCC-S, LICDC-CS

Meghan Fawcett has been licensed in the field of counseling since 2006. She has an LPCC-S and LICDC-CS and has worked in the field of addictions and mental health treatment, serving as a program administrator, direct service provider, compliance director and clinical supervisor. Meghan currently owns and operates Rustbelt Counseling and Consulting, LLC, where she provides clinical supervision, counseling services, and consultation to agencies seeking CARF accreditation. In addition to her work as a counselor and administrator, Meghan has taught as an adjunct faculty member at Youngstown State University for the past 18 years and is a former President of the Ohio Counseling Association and East Ohio Counseling Association.
