Who Should Attend: Behavioral Health Professionals
Description: This course is designed to provide each participant with an understanding of the science and theory behind the practice of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Participants will review material, engage in discussions and participate in activities centered on developing a working knowledge of this practice. Participants will learn how ACT can benefit the clients they serve as well as gain an understanding of how to explain the approach and use basic concepts in the treatment of mood disorders, substance use, PTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder.
Objectives: 1. Participants will understand the science and research that supports the efficacy of ACT in the treatment of behavioral health disorders. 2. Participants will understand the 6 core processes of ACT and demonstrate the ability to implement processes in practice through role plays/case study discussion. 3. Participants will review and increase competence with ACT practice, including willingness, cognitive fusion, mindfulness, conceptualized self, and using a life map. 4. Participants will apply ACT tools to case studies that exemplify treatment with those who have mood disorders, anxiety disorders and borderline personality disorder. 5. Participants will review and understand ways to utilize ACT in individual, group, and couples counseling. |
