Quilted Sawtooth Star Tote Workshop

Saturday, November 14th, 10am-4pm

QFA Museum Education Annex, 112 Morris St. La Conner, WA

About the Workshop

Create a bold and functional tote featuring the classic Saw Tooth Star block! Students will learn how to piece crisp, accurate star points and assemble them into a striking quilted tote bag that’s perfect for everyday use. This workshop is deal for confident beginners to intermediate quilters who are comfortable with rotary cutting and machine piecing. Students will leave with a beautiful, handmade tote, a deeper understanding of one of quilting’s most versatile and timeless blocks, and skills to adapt the design into future projects such as pillows, wall hangings, or larger quilts.

About the Instructor

Jana Jones works in the space between improvisation and structure. She builds asymmetrical quilts that combine traditionally pieced blocks with improvisational techniques, setting the planned against the spontaneous. Working in quilting cotton and thrifted bedsheets, she composes on the design wall so that each quilt can find its own shape as it comes together.

Trained in mathematics, Jones left a career in data analysis for slower work done by hand. She now owns Mossy Puddle Preschool. That early training still surfaces in her quilting as an intuition for how parts relate—the structural sense that lets an unconventional mix hold together.
