Description: One of the most commonly asked questions I get in consultation for newly trained EMDR clinicians and seasoned clinicians alike is ‘what else can I do to help my clients develop resources?’. They’ve gone through all the usual suspects, breathing, the peaceful place, the container. But what if there was a way to learn how to create endless resources with even your most complex of clients? What if there was a way to harness the power of resourcing to help your clients begin reprogramming their nervous system away from things like depression and anxiety and towards more positive mood states like peace and gratitude without even starting to process? If you’re intrigued by these questions then you’ll want to join me for this incredible training where we will explore the art and science of Phase 2 Preparation using the lens of neurobiology. We will discuss different therapeutic aids, like the window of tolerance, that can help garner client interest and buy in for building and use resources in Phase 2. Additionally, you’ll learn a frame for teaching participants how to use EMDR resources in different ways, both proactively as well as reactively, to best prepare clients for EMDR processing. Participants will also have an opportunity to learn and practice a variety of resources for building resilience for themselves and their clients; this will include 3 semi guided visualizations for external and internal resources, positive relational resources as well as a technique for addressing negative emotions/impulses and helping clients practice dual attention.
Objectives: Participants will: • Learn how to use the hand brain, window of tolerance and other therapeutic aids to help make the neurobiology of Phase 2 more accessible to their clients. • Learn the difference between coping and regulation and how to implement EMDR resources in order to help their clients reprogram their nervous system away from negative mood states like depression and anxiety, while also widening the client’s window of tolerance and preparing them for reprocessing. • Learn at least 3 new techniques/scripts for helping clients to access positive emotion and at least 1 technique for practicing dual attention and directly working with negative emotions
