The event, to be held on November 30, is an opportunity to honor distinguished individuals who are making a profound impact on the lives of children through their passion and tireless dedication to advancing understanding and action to mitigate the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and trauma.

The Judge Ron Alvarez Resiliency Award

The Judge Ron Alvarez Resiliency Award, named in honor of the pioneering legal mind Judge Ron Alvarez, recognizes those in the legal profession who are advocates for a more comprehensive understanding of the science of adversity in the context of the law. The recipient works tirelessly to promote a trauma-informed approach to legal practice, making our legal system more compassionate and equitable for vulnerable children and families. In 2019, the award was given to Judge Alvarez to honor his trauma-informed and compassionate approach within the juvenile court system. We are deeply honored that his wife, Elaine, will allow us to continue honoring his legacy with the award.

At this year's Gratitude Gathering, we will celebrate our shared commitment to fostering resiliency in children. The event promises an inspiring evening with renowned speakers, personal stories of transformation, and the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share our passion for creating positive change.

The 2020 Awards

In 2020, Dori Foster-Morales was bestowed with the prestigious Judge Ron Alvarez Resiliency Award. Ms. Foster-Morales, as President of the Florida Bar, made it her mission to elevate mental health and wellness awareness within the legal community. With unwavering dedication, she brought these critical issues to the forefront of the 107,000 members of the Florida Bar. Her passion, commitment, and advocacy embodied the spirit of retired circuit court Judge Ron Alvarez, who dedicated his career to championing the rights and well-being of children.

Laura Davis Smith was the 2020 Recipient of the 'Jane Robinson Child Advocacy Award' named after Jane Robinson who founded Center for Child Counseling more than two decades ago and has dedicated her professional career to promoting the best interests of children and infant and childhood mental health.
